Conocarpus plants are a genus of two species of flowering plants in the family Combretaceae, native to tropical regions of the world. One of the species is a widespread mangrove species , and the other is restricted to a small area around the southern Red Sea coasts, where it grows alongside seasonal rivers.

Appearance: Conocarpus plants are dense multiple-trunked shrubs or small to medium-sized trees from 1 to 20 m tall.

Hardiness: Conocarpus plants are highly adaptable and can survive in various challenging conditions, including: Salt tolerance , Drought tolerance, Poor soil conditions etc.

Use: Due to their hardiness, Conocarpus plants are often used in landscaping and urban environments.

Species:

  1. Conocarpus erectus: This species is commonly known as Buttonwood and is a widespread mangrove species found in coastal areas of the Americas and Africa.   
  2. Conocarpus lancifolius: This species is commonly known as Lanceleaf Buttonwood and is native to the arid regions of East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
